EYE HEALTH NUTRITION

A good diet is important to maintain overall health, including eye health. The compounds in various foods are vital for our body’s maintenance of its various components, including our eyes.

Whilst ensuring a good overall diet is ideal, sometimes it is not always feasible or sufficient for a number of reasons. In these circumstances we can recommend additional dietary supplements to boost the areas where diet alone does not suffice.

Dietary Recommendations

The best overall choice of diet for eye health has been suggested as the “Mediterranean Diet”. This is based upon the diets of Greece, Italy, and other countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. The Mediterranean Diet includes lots of foods such as whole grains, fruit, vegetables, beans, nuts, and in particular, seafood.

Other dietary recommendations include;
  • Adding more fish to your diet, especially those high in Omega-3 and Omega-6 oils. This can help reduce dry eyes.
  • Yellow capsicum is good to help avoid vision loss due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
  • 20mg of good quality saffron has been found in numerous studies to benefit macula function. Taking this daily can improve the health of the macula in the early dry stages of AMD.

Nutritional Supplements for Healthy Eyes

Where necessary, dietary supplements may be recommended to help maintain optimum eye health. These can aid in the treatment of dry eye symptoms, slow the progression of AMD, or treat other gaps in nutrition.

There are a number of supplements in particular that we recommend, based on your individual circumstances and eye exam diagnosis. These each have sound scientific evidence to support their benefits.

MDEyes

MDEyes is a once daily supplement that has been shown to slow down the later progression of AMD.

Dry Eyes Forte

Used to help relieve dry eye symptoms, Dry Eyes Forte increases the oily first thin layer of your tear film. This thereby decreases the rate of tear evaporation and keeps your eyes feeling moist and fresh.
